Phillips S. Baker, Jr.

Philip Baker has been a prominent figure in the mining industry, notably serving as the President and Chief Executive Officer of Hecla Mining Company, the largest primary silver producer in the United States. He joined Hecla in May 2001 as Vice President and Chief Financial Officer, quickly advancing to Chief Operating Officer in November 2001 and subsequently being appointed President that same month. In May 2003, he assumed the role of CEO, a position he held until his retirement in May 2024.

Before his tenure at Hecla, he amassed significant experience in the mining sector. From March 1998 to January 2001, he served as Vice President and Chief Financial Officer of Battle Mountain Gold Company. Before that, he was the Chief Financial Officer and Vice President of Finance at Pegasus Gold Inc. from January 1994 to March 1998. His early career included various roles at Battle Mountain Gold Company, culminating as Treasurer, and he also worked as an accountant for Arthur Andersen LLP.

In addition to his executive roles, Mr. Baker has held several directorships. He served on the board of Questar Corporation from February 2004 to June 2010 and was an Independent Director of QEP Resources, Inc. from June 2010 to 2021. He has also been involved with the National Mining Association, serving as its Chairman from 2017 to 2020.

Mr. Baker's educational background includes a Bachelor of Business Administration in Accounting from Texas A&M University, obtained in 1981, and a Master of Business Administration and Juris Doctor degrees from the University of Houston, earned in 1985.

Under his leadership, Hecla Mining Company achieved significant milestones, including positioning the company with the highest silver reserves in its 125-year history. His contributions to the mining industry have been recognized through various accolades, reflecting his commitment to operational excellence and sustainable practices.
