Michael Steinmann
Pan American Silver
Michael Steinmann is the President and Chief Executive Officer of Pan American Silver Corp., one of the world's largest primary silver producers with operations throughout the Americas. He assumed this role in 2015.
Dr. Steinmann joined Pan American Silver in 2004, progressing through increasingly senior roles before his appointment. With over 30 years of experience in the base and precious metals sectors, he has led the company's growth and operational excellence.
Before joining Pan American Silver, Dr. Steinmann was Manager of Geology and Business Development at Glencore South Africa (Pty) Ltd. He holds a Ph.D. in Natural Science (Geology) from the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology (ETH Zürich) and a Master's in Geology from the University of Zurich. He also earned a Diploma in Corporate Finance from Universidad ESAN in Lima, Peru.
Dr. Steinmann has gained extensive experience in South American mine operations and project development throughout his career. He has participated in numerous mine construction projects, overseeing phases from exploration and feasibility studies to start-up and continuous operation. His expertise also encompasses corporate mergers and acquisitions and capital market transactions, including equity and debt financings.
In addition to his role at Pan American Silver, Dr. Steinmann has been a director of Lumina Gold Corp. since 2014.
He is also a past President of The Silver Institute, a non-profit international industry association that aims to increase public understanding of silver's many uses and values.
Under Dr. Steinmann's leadership, Pan American Silver continues to enhance its position in the global mining industry, focusing on sustainable practices and operational excellence across its diverse portfolio of assets.
